Appointments update 27 March 2019

Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) has named Helen McEwan as its new chief pensions officer.

McEwan had previously held a variety of senior roles at Aegon and will begin her new role at USS on 1 April 2019, where she will be responsible for all pensions related activities. She has also served on several executive boards, including True Potential, as has worked as a non-executive director at The Exeter. McEwan will replace Kevin Smith, who retired in 2018.

RPMI Railpen has appointed Johanna Kyrklund and Carl Bang to the Railpen Investments Board, with immediate effect.

Kyrklund is global head of multi-asset investments and a member of the Group Management Committee at Schroders. Prior to joining Schroders, she worked at Insight Investment and at Deutsche Asset Management. Bang has previously managed money with the Canadian National Railway Pension Fund and as a senior portfolio manager with the Norwegian Sovereign Wealth Fund. He has been both chairman and CEO of State Street Global Advisors in France, and acted as CIO in establishing the Qatar Foundation Endowment Fund.

Criterion has announced the appointment of Pat Shea as a non-executive board director.

Shea brings the number of non-executive directors on the board up to six. He was previously with Fidelity for over 32 years, during which he held various roles in several countries, including chief operating officer for the Asia-Pacific region and country head for its India operation. He is also non-executive director to Henderson Investment Funds Limited.
