State pension to be included in dashboard

The state pension will be included in the pensions dashboard when it is launched, Money and Pensions Service (Maps) Pensions Dashboards Industry Delivery Group principal, Chris Curry, has confirmed.

Speaking to the Work and Pensions Select Committee, Curry also stated that the group is cooperating with the government as to how the state pension data will be delivered.

In response to questioning, Curry stated: “Our intention is that the state pension will be part of any initial dashboard. We are working closely with the Department for Work and Pensions as to when this will be delivered.”

Despite this, Maps chair, Sir Hector Sants, noted that the launch date for the dashboard is still undecided.

“It is not realistic for me to float a date,” he said.

The industry delivery group plans to publish a report on the technical issues that are holding up its launch.

Sants continued: “In the document in April, we will set out the dependencies and questions that we need to resolve before we can [set a launch date].”

A recent survey by Which? found that more than three quarters are keen to use a pensions dashboard and nearly as many wanted the state pensions to be included.

The House of Lords has previously expressed its regret at the inclusion of “such a skeletal provision” of pension dashboard powers in the Pension Schemes Bill.
