News in brief – 14 August 2020

University of Exeter pension scheme has appointed Aon to provide investment advice to its trustees.

The appointment extends the range of services that Aon provides to the trustees, having held the scheme actuary appointment since 1999. Aon senior investment consultant, Charlie Iversen, will be the lead investment adviser. The University of Exeter Retirement Benefits Scheme is a closed defined benefit scheme providing benefits to non-academic staff at the university. It has assets of around £140m and over 3,000 deferred and pensioner members.

BASF UK Pension Fund has re-joined the Aries Pensions Club.

BASF pensions manager, Alison Wilkins, said that Aries had “clearly expanded its coverage a great deal” since the firm first used the service a decade ago. Aries Insight director, Ian Neale, added: “I’m delighted to welcome BASF UK Pension Fund back to the Aries Pensions Club. BASF is our first new client since the lockdown and was secured following a remote presentation. BASF is a valuable addition to our existing client list of about 120 organisations and we are very excited to be working with them again.”

Earth Capital receives top scores in PRI 2020 assessment and joins UNFCCC Climate Neutral Now.

It received A+ ratings across the board, including for its approach to responsible investment and its selection, appointment, and monitoring of fund managers. The assessment scores are based on how a signatory has progressed year-on-year and relative to their peers. Earth Capital has also joined the UN’s Climate Neutral Now campaign affirming its commitment to zero-carbon operations.
