TPO investigating cyber incident

The Pensions Ombudsman (TPO) has confirmed that it is currently investigating a cyber incident, having disabled some systems as a precautionary measure.

In an update, TPO said that it is investigating a cyber incident and is working with the relevant agencies, including the National Cyber Security Centre, to deal with this incident.

It also revealed that some systems, such as application forms and LiveChat, have been disabled as a precautionary measure.

“We apologise for any inconvenience,” the ombudsman stated.

More information is to be shared once available.

The incident follows the recent Capita cyber breach, which prompted a number of pension schemes and providers to reach out to members to warn them about potential scams, after the consultancy found evidence of “limited data exfiltration from the small proportion of affected service estate which might include some customer, supplier or colleague data”.

The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) also confirmed that it has received a "large number" of reports from organisations directly affected by the recent Capita cyber incidents.

The Pensions Regulator and Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) have also been engaged with the incident.
