- The trustees of the Merchant Navy Officers Pension Fund have appointed Rory Murphy as chairman of the board and Mike Jess as vice-chairman.
Murphy is a former general secretary of the Amicus trade union (now Unite), with over 30 years’ experience in both the public and private sectors in the UK, Ireland and Europe. He joins from CAROM Limited, where he advised companies across a wide range of sectors on their trade union engagement strategies, including issues as employment terms and conditions and pensions.
Jess is assistant general secretary of Nautilus International and secretary of The Nautilus Welfare Fund, a position he has held since July 2011. He is also a trustee director of the Merchant Navy Welfare Board, Maritime Charities Funding Group and Chair of the Maritime Education Trust. He has been a member nominated trustee of the MNOPF since 2011 and has been with Nautilus since 2001, prior to which he has held a range of senior HR and management development posts in both the private and public sector.
- Kames Capital has strengthened its retail sales team with the appointment of Mark Ferguson
Ferguson joins Kames as business development manager covering Scotland and the North of England, reporting to Kames head of UK regional sales Mark Savage. He has nearly 20 years' financial services experience and joins Kames from Ignis Asset Management where he was a fund sales manager covering Scotland, the North of England and Northern Ireland.
- Schroder Property has appointed two newly created property analyst roles within its Schroders Global Property Securities (GPS) team.
Jon Consolo has joined from Deutsche Bank Asset Management where he was a real estate securities analyst covering Continental Europe. Based in Schroders office in London, his primary responsibility will be to cover the European markets. Jon has a total of 10 years in the industry and is a CAIA charterholder.
Ryan Bennett will join the team next month and will be based in the Schroders New York office. Ryan has 7 years’ experience covering North American REITs and has previously held roles at Zelman & Associates, Barclays and Lehman Brothers. Ryan is a CFA charterholder.
- JLT Employee Benefits has appointed Peter Mileham as operations manager for its new customer support centre in Edinburgh which is due to open its doors towards the end of 2014.
He will start this newly created role on 13 October 2014, and will be responsible for overall leadership, performance, training and operational developments of the brand new operation.
Mileham has 23 years’ experience in a contact centre environment, working with Barclaycard, The AA and Sky. He joins from Amazon where he was the leader of their Edinburgh office and was instrumental in implementing a number of new technology and customer service initiatives.
- The National Association of Pension Funds has appointed Mike Weston as chief executive of the Pensions Infrastructure Platform.
Weston will help to accelerate the PIP’s progress and ensure the platform continues to be a place where pension funds can gain access to infrastructure investments.
Weston has worked in the UK institutional investment industry for over 25 years. From 2009 he was the in-house chief investment officer for the DMGT pension schemes with responsibility for investment strategy and risk.
