Appointments update 24 May 2019

Northern Local Government Pension Scheme has appointed Gerald Cooney as its new chair.

Cooney is vice deputy of the Greater Manchester Pension Fund and has been a member of the fund’s committee for nearly 30 years as a representative of Tameside Council, the fund’s administering authority. He takes the role with immediate effect, replacing Paul Doughty, who was appointed on an interim basis in January.

Helm Godfrey has named John Ditchfield as its head of responsible investment.

Ditchfield has been advising on sustainable and ethical investment strategies for over 10 years. He is co-chairman of the Ethical Investment Association and was formerly director of the UK Sustainable Investment and Finance Association. He has also been a member of the Social Stock Exchange admissions panel.

Criterion has appointed Billy Burnside as its new managing director.

Burnside joins Criterion after consulting at Deloitte LLP and a career in pensions that has included working with Friends Provident, Standard Life and Aviva. Prior to Deloitte, he worked as head of platform development and e-commerce at Aviva UK. Burnside was a Criterion non-executive director between July 2017 and March 2019.
