Three fifths of savers worried about pension adequacy

Three fifths of savers are not confident that they will have the money needed to fund the essentials in retirement, research shared as part of the Pensions Awareness campaign has revealed.

Pension Geeks, the group behind the Pensions Awareness campaign, said that whilst this is a “frightening” statistic, it is one that the industry can help to change, particularly ahead of the awareness campaign.

Now in its 11th year, the campaign will deliver a number live shows between 10-12 September that will tackle issues such as transferring pensions, getting ready for retirement, and how to close the gender pensions gap.

Pension Geeks partnered with Royal London on this year's campaign, with additional support from its ambassadors: Aegon, Aon, Isio and Just Group.

In the meantime, however, the group encouraged savers to check how much they are paying into their pension, to look at their pension pot investments, and to track down any lost or forgotten pots, with previous research showing that there is a collective £26.6bn in lost pensions.

Commenting on the upcoming campaign, Pensions Awareness Founder, Jonathan Bland, said: “We’re excited to be back educating the nation on everything pensions.

“In light of our latest research showing that confidence in funding the essentials in retirement is low, it’s more important than ever that we get out there and deliver reliable financial education.

"For example, so many people have lost track or forgotten about a pension, and many people aren’t aware of how their pension is invested – it’s our aim to empower people to unlock the best from their pensions, so that they can reach a care-free retirement.

“Please do join us and spread the word amongst your friends and colleagues. If you do one thing on your life admin to do list this September, make it to check in with your pension!”
