Pension dashboards placed 'at the heart' of Maps' pension work

The Money and Pension Service has highlighted work on pension dashboards as a key priority in its Strategic Plan for 2025-28, confirming that the delivery of the MoneyHelper Pension Dashboard (MHPD) will be "at the heart" of its pensions work over the next few years.

Delivering the Pensions Dashboards Program (PDP) and launching the MoneyHelper Dashboard (MHPD), and sharing and promoting research and insights to support decision-makers in government and across sectors, was one of four strategic priorities outlined as part of Maps' plan.

Indeed, Maps said that the delivery and continued service of the MHPD will be "at the heart of our pensions work", with specific efforts to be made to ensure that it is designed for those most in need, providing a service that is accessible for all.

"We will evolve our content, information, tools and services to fit seamlessly with the dashboards service, as we strive to ensure that people receive the right guidance at the right time to help them navigate complex choices and make informed decisions," Maps stated.

It also confirmed that it will develop and deliver a marketing plan, coordinating with government, industry and broader stakeholders on communication and engagement activities for the successful launch of MHPD and broader availability of pensions dashboards.

In addition to work to support the launch of the MHPD, Maps said that, as pensions dashboards become available to the public more widely, it will explore opportunities with commercial providers to signpost their customers to MoneyHelper, where they would benefit from impartial information and guidance.

"People across the UK will, for the first time, be able to have all the information on their
pensions pots in one place," it explained. "For some, what they see will be a relief. For others, worry. This can lead to inertia; we want it to be the turning point.

"We will be at people’s sides to help them understand what this new information means for them, what they can do about it, and enable them to take action."

In addition to its work on pensions dashboards, Maps said it is looking to go further on joining up services, so that customers receive effective help across money, debt and pensions when and how they need it.

"We will prioritise further integration of our pensions and debt support – working with devolved governments where appropriate – as we know some of our pensions customers come to us struggling with a debt problem, and we have a responsibility to support them in getting the help they need," it explained.

It also confirmed plans to finalise the transformation of its guidance services, by optimising the way it delivers pension guidance delivery.

In addition to this, it said it will work with the Department for Work and Pensions to ensure that Pension Wise continues to be fit for purpose, delivering what customers need from the service and meeting the policy aims.

Work on pensions was just one part of Maps Strategic Plan, however, as it also set out a new vision and mission for the organisation, as well as its key initiatives and plans to improve collaboration, debt services and build an inclusive and agile organisational culture.

Commenting on the plan, Maps chief executive, Oliver Morley, said:  “I am delighted that today we are publishing our new Strategic Plan for 2025-28 which supports the UK government’s mission to raise living standards and kickstart economic growth.

"It also demonstrates our commitment to helping people make informed financial decisions and prepare for later life.

“Our biggest strength lies in the expertise and commitment of our people and partners, who bring deep knowledge, experience and an inclusive approach to helping people navigate financial challenges.

“Achieving our ambitious aims will not be easy, but by working together – across government, industry, and communities – we will deliver our vision: better financial futures for everyone in need.”

Adding to this, Maps chair, Sara Weller, said: “Our new Strategic Plan 2025-28 reaffirms our commitment to those who need our help the most. At its heart is the need to understand individuals’ diverse circumstances – including those who may struggle to access support.

“MoneyHelper provides great information and guidance for everyone; within this, we will specifically design and optimise for those who need us the most. This includes delivering the MHPD, transforming the way people interact with and manage their pensions.

“Our new plan will also see us maintain and build key cross-sector partnerships to ensure people can access the right support, at the right time and from the individuals and organisations they know and trust.”
