News in brief - 19 July 2024

Local Government Pensions Scheme (LGPS) funds have invested a combined £150m into Octopus Investment's Affordable Housing Fund.

The new commitments come from Avon (£50m), Gloucestershire (£50m), Devon (£40m), and Clwyd (£10m) LGPS, including co-investment to deliver affordable housing in specific areas. This follows the fund's first funding round in December 2023, which raised £50m from London CIV and £10m from Better Society Capital. Last year's capital has been fully allocated to affordable housing projects. The fund is designed to offer a model that benefits LGPS funds looking to meet their environmental targets while delivering societal change.

Global Family Office Community (GFOC) has appointed Barnett Waddingham as investment consulting partner.

The exclusive agreement will see Barnett Waddingham provide investment expertise to GFOC’s members and help families develop effective investment strategies. Barnett Waddingham's family office team is part of the firm’s specialist investment advisory team, which has experience in long-term strategy setting, risk management, manager selection, and performance monitoring. Commenting on the appointment, GFOC founder and CEO, Vahe Vartanian, said: “Investment matters are of paramount concern to all our members, and having a well-established and independent firm such as Barnett Waddingham as our approved partner will assist all our families in accessing in-depth investment expertise when they require it.”

The Access Pool has announced that it is looking to appoint a UK Impact Real Estate investment manager for a decarbonisation-focused impact mandate.

The mandate size is expected to be around £100m initially, with further allocations expected in future. The investment manager appointed will implement a decarbonisation-focused impact strategy in the UK direct real estate, aimed at accelerating the decarbonisation of existing assets in the UK.
