Appointments update - 7 July 2021

HSBC Retirement Services Limited (HRSL) has appointed Paul McBride as chief operating officer.

HRSL is the pensions executive team leading the commercial and strategic development of the HSBC Master Trust. McBride, who has 30 years of experience in the UK pensions industry, joins from Capita where he spent five years as head of risk & governance for the Atlas Master Trust. Prior to this he was head of governance at Legal & General where he developed and implemented their master trust. HRSL CEO, Alison Hatcher, said: “We have ambitious plans for the growth and development of our Master Trust. Paul’s appointment is an important step as we continue to build a best-in-class digital proposition which will serve the specific needs of employers, trustees and scheme members.”

Evolve Pensions has appointed Samantha Pitt, representing Law Debenture Pensions Trust Corporation, as chair of trustees for the Crystal Master Trust.

Pitt is a trustee director at LawDeb and brings strong commercial experience gained from her previous investment-focused corporate roles. She previously held roles at Powergen, the Strategic Rail Authority, and Network Rail, and currently holds a non-executive director role at The Guinness Partnership. She also chairs the Financial Conduct Authority Pension Plan. LawDeb CEO, Denis Jackson, said: “In appointing FTSE 250 Law Debenture’s Samantha Pitt, the Crystal Master Trust and its members can be confident the requisite risk controls and protections are in place. We very much look forward to working with the team at Evolve and developing a long lasting, enduring partnership.” Pitt succeeds Tony Filbin, who has served as the Crystal Trustee chair for 6 years.

Aon has added Andrew Turnbull and Scott Donaldson to its defined contribution (DC) team.

Turnbull, who has been brought on as a senior consultant, to advise trustee and corporate clients on all aspects of workplace DC pension provision. He has 20 years’ experience in the pensions industry, the last 13 of which have focused on DC pensions consulting. He has worked at various benefit consultancies, most recently Barnett Waddingham, and is a fellow of the Pensions Management Institute. Donaldson, who will serve as a senior DC investment consultant, has joined from Hymans Robertson and will be working with key clients on all investment aspects of their DC pension provision, and especially on improving retirement outcomes for members. He is an actuary with over 15 years’ experience in pensions investment consulting, covering investment strategy, governance, and provider selection and monitoring.
