Appointments update - 11 July 2025

Paul Sweeting has been appointed as the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) president. 

He takes over from Kartina Tahir Thomson and, under the new governance reforms, is the first president of the IFoA elected to serve a two-year term. Until recently, Sweeting was a senior advisor at the Hassana Investment Company. He is an honorary professor of actuarial science at the University of Kent and a visiting professor at Heriot Watt University Dubai. He is a fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, for whom he has acted as a volunteer for many years. He also helped design and write the textbook for the profession’s Enterprise Risk Management subject. Sweeting has chaired several actuarial boards, committees and working parties, and served as honorary secretary for the Institute of Actuaries before its merger with the Faculty of Actuaries. Additionally, he is also a fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment, the Royal Statistical Society and the Royal Society of Arts.  Sweeting is a chartered enterprise risk Actuary and a chartered financial analyst charterholder. 

The Investment Association has appointed Ann Prendergast as board chair.

Prendergast, who is State Street Investment Management executive vice president and head of EMEA, will assume her new role as Investment Association’s board chair at the annual general meeting on 17 September 2025. She joined the Investment Association board in May 2024 and will replace J.P. Morgan Asset Management, CEO EMEA, Patrick Thomson. She has over 30 years of experience in the investment management industry, including two decades at State Street Investment Management. Sackers has appointed two new associates: Alexandra Bellis and Enda Kerr.

Bellis is a five-year qualified lawyer who trained at Sharpe Pritchard, joined Pinsent Masons on qualification and then moved to Stephenson Harwood. Meanwhile, Kerr is a four-year qualified lawyer who trained and qualified at Arthur Cox in Dublin before moving to Pinsent Masons in London. At Sackers, they will be advising trustees and employers on a range of pension issues relating to defined benefit (DB) and defined contribution (DC) pension arrangements, including scheme management, investment and funding, member queries and regulatory compliance.
