TPT Investment Management appoints Peter Smith as chief investment officer

TPT Investment Management (TPTIM), the investment management arm of TPT Retirement Solutions, has appointed Peter Smith as chief investment officer.

In addition to his appointment as chief investment officer, Smith will become a member of the TPT Retirement Solutions Group Executive and join the board of TPT Investment Management.

His appointment comes as TPT has cleared the regulatory assessment for its defined benefit (DB) superfund and is working towards authorisation as the UK’s first multi-employer collective defined contribution (CDC) scheme.

As TPT broadens its range of solutions, the provider acknowledged the importance of its investment management approach remaining aligned with its wider business strategy.

Given this, Smith’s new role aims to support this alignment and ensure the business meets the needs of its wide client base.

Smith joined TPT in October 2008 and has played a key role in the development and growth of TPT’s fiduciary management unit.

More recently, he held a central leadership position in establishing its current model of fund management and developing the investment management capability which supports all TPT’s propositions.

In his new role, Smith will report to TPT Retirement Solutions chief executive officer, David Lane.

Alongside Smith’s appointment, Chris Dickens, Nic Ashworth and James Robinson will continue to provide executive co-ordination for TPTIM.

TPTIM chair, Mike Balfour, reached the end of his agreed term in September 2026, and Anna Troup will succeed him as the new independent chair of TPTIM and non-executive director on the TPT Retirement Solutions board.

Nicholas Clapp will remain a member of the TPTIM board.

Commenting on the news, Lane said: “Peter has played an integral role in developing TPT’s investment capability over the past 18 years, and his appointment reflects the continued importance of investment management to our wider strategy.

“As we develop our superfund and CDC propositions alongside our existing services, Peter and the team will ensure that investment expertise is embedded in strategic decision-making across the group.

“I would also like to thank Nicholas for his leadership of TPTIM over the past two years. He has played an important role in developing the business and its fiduciary management proposition.”

Adding to this, Smith said that his focus in his new role will be to continue to strengthen TPT’s investment capability platform and ensure that the provider’s investment approach supports the varying needs of clients across its propositions.

“Investment management is central to the success of our new offerings, and I am looking forward to working with colleagues across TPT to build on the progress we have made and help deliver strong, long-term outcomes for our clients,” he concluded.
