Pensions UK has appointed four new member non-executive directors to its board, and named its new Policy Board chair, as part of a governance refresh.
Joining the board are West Midlands Pension Fund executive director, Rachel Brothwood; People's Partnership chief executive officer, Patrick Heath-Lay; TPT Retirement Solutions chief executive officer, David Lane; and L&G managing director, workplace savings, Katharine Photiou.
Brothwood has also been appointed as chair of Pensions UK’s Policy Board, succeeding John Chilman, who will continue to serve on the Pensions UK Board until the end of his term in October 2027.
The appointments follow a recruitment process as several long-serving directors reach the end of their maximum terms.
USS chief executive, Carol Young, will step down in October 2026, as she reaches the end of her maximum term.
The new board members bring experience from across the pensions industry, including the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS), collective defined contribution (CDC) schemes and pension superfunds.
Pensions UK said the changes support its governance structure and its '2030 Ready' strategy.
Pensions UK chair, Jamie Fiveash, said the appointments came at a time of significant change for pensions policy and regulation.
“Patrick, Rachel, David and Katharine each bring a different perspective and deep expertise which will help us challenge constructively, think strategically and ensure Pensions UK remains firmly focused on the needs of its members and pension savers,” he said.
“I was enormously impressed by the quality of candidates throughout the recruitment process and I am particularly pleased that these appointments bring fresh perspectives from across our industry to the centre of Pensions UK's governance.
“I look forward to working closely with them as we continue to deliver our ambitions for the sector and support members through a period of substantial change and reform.”
Pensions UK chief executive, Julian Mund, added: “The pensions sector is going through a period of significant change and opportunity.
"Having strong and diverse voices around our board table is essential if we are to continue representing our members effectively and shape a pensions system that delivers better outcomes for savers.”
The Pensions UK board oversees the organisation's strategy and operations, while the Policy Board is responsible for pensions policy across the association.
