Pension Awareness Campaign celebrates 10th anniversary

The Pension Awareness Campaign is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, with a range of online events planned between 11 and 15 September aimed at increasing the public’s understanding of saving for retirement.

Created by Pension Geeks, a Grimsby-based firm, the campaign began as a meeting of industry providers and then became a nationwide double-decker bus tour travelling up and down the UK, and today it provides a digital destination.

Last year, a million people visited the campaign’s information website, and 40,000 attended shows and events.

This year, the online events will take place over five days covering topics such as the state pension and mortgages, and including talks by providers and industry specialists, such as LCP partner and former Pensions Minister, Steve Webb, and experts from the Money and Pensions Service.

Pension Geeks co-founder, Jonathan Bland, said: “We started Pension Geeks 10 years ago from our kitchen after being frustrated with the lack of materials and guidance that truly helped individuals make sense of pensions.

“There were a lot of industry events that talked about how to improve communications but there was nothing aimed at helping people with the nitty gritty of saving for retirement.

“This campaign has helped to change lives, and that’s why we keep on doing what we’re doing.”
