PMI appoints Giresh Menezes as president

The Pensions Management Institute (PMI) has appointed Girish Menezes as its new president, alongside three new non-executive directors (NEDs) to its board.

The appointments were announced at the PMI's annual general meeting on 11 September.

Menezes brings more than two decades of leadership, governance and advocacy experience, with a track record of championing member outcomes, driving professional standards, and fostering collaboration across the industry.

As well as president, he will serve as an NED on the board of directors, working with the board and executive team to shape the PMI’s strategic priorities.

Joining him on the board as NEDs are Louise Davey, Duncan Buchanan and Mary Cahani.

Davey, a trustee director and head of policy and external affairs at IGG, previously spent 17 years at The Pensions Regulator (TPR), where she was director of regulatory policy, analysis and advice, and led the development of key initiatives including the defined contribution (DC) value for money framework, the defined benefit (DB) Funding Code and the General Code.

Buchanan, a former partner at Hogan Lovells and past president of the Society of Pension Professionals, has over 30 years’ experience advising trustees, employers and industry bodies on pensions law and regulation, and is recognised as a trusted voice in the industry.

Cahani, a member of the UK institutional team at Invesco, focuses on driving better outcomes for DC members through investment solutions across asset classes.

She joined Invesco in 2022 after more than a decade at Russell Investments in institutional roles.

The board also confirmed the reappointment of LCP partner and head of governance, Rachika Cooray, who was first appointed in 2023 and has previously served as vice president of the Institute.

In addition to this, Helen Forrest Hall has been appointed as the third executive director in line with the PMI’s constitution.

Commenting on the appointments, PMI chair, Ruston Smith, said: “We are delighted to welcome Girish as our new president and to strengthen our board with such a diverse and talented group.

"Their combined experience and passion for professional excellence will be instrumental as we continue to support our members, raise standards, and drive innovation across the pensions industry.”

Menezes added: “It is an honour to serve as president of the PMI at such a pivotal moment for pensions.

"I look forward to representing our members and working with the board to drive forward our mission of strengthening governance, enhancing skills, and delivering better outcomes for savers and beneficiaries.”
