Non-enrolled worker growth more than double AE growth

Growth in the number of non-enrolled workers was more than double that of auto-enrolled workers in May, marking the 22nd consecutive month that non-enrolled worker growth has outpaced that of auto-enrolled workers.

The Pension Regulator's (TPR) latest Automatic enrolment declaration of compliance report showed that the number of auto-enrolled workers had increased by 17,000, whilst the number of non-enrolled workers had grown by around 36,000.

Growth in non-enrolled workers has continuously outpaced that of auto-enrolled workers for the past 22 months, with the gap between these groups more than halving as a result, narrowing from 458,000 to 208,000 in the past year alone, from May 2021 to May 2022.

The number of workers who were already active members of a qualifying scheme totalled 11,957,000, while 972,000 were automatically re-enrolled during February.

The update also revealed that the number of employers confirming the completion of their declaration of compliance had risen to 2,048,123, while the total number of eligible employers increased by 62,000 to 33,616,000.

The figures for TPR's Automatic enrolment declaration of compliance are compiled from information submitted by employers when they complete their declaration of compliance with auto-enrolment.

TPR said the figure for auto-enrolled jobholders was likely to be higher than that shown in the report, as some employers will have reached their duties start date and automatically enrolled their eligible employees without having completed their declaration.
