GLIL Infrastructure investment fund has received an additional £400m in commitments from its existing investors LPPI, West Yorkshire Pension Fund, Merseyside Pension Fund and Greater Manchester Pension Fund.
The additional capital will enable GLIL to make further UK infrastructure investments, while it seeks to expand its membership as the government encourages pension funds to increase investment in the sector.
GLIL launched in 2015 with two founding members and £500m in capital commitments. As at 30 June 2026, it had £4.5bn in committed capital and a UK portfolio covering renewable energy, utilities, ports, logistics, trains, digital infrastructure, hospitals and schools.
Recent investments include a majority interest in a hyperscale data centre campus in south east England, acquired from Yondr, alongside its existing investment in UK mobile tower company Cornerstone.
GLIL has also acquired a minority stake in wellboat operator Sølvtrans, which has a leading position in the UK market.
GLIL head of direct infrastructure, Jonathan Ord, said the fund combines the resources and expertise of pension funds to invest directly in UK infrastructure, working with other partners to provide access to such investments.
He added that GLIL’s recent investments have included digital and transport infrastructure and that the additional capital would support further investment.
“Our pipeline will remain broad, but with a particular focus on the energy transition and digitalisation – areas where the UK needs significant investment – and we’ll be exploring ways we can start to take on additional construction risk, applying the operational experience we’ve built within our team,” he said.
