DWP suspends War Pension Scheme medical examinations

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has suspended medical examinations for those entitled to membership of the War Pension Scheme and Armed Forced Compensation Scheme.

In response to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, all planned examinations have been cancelled for a period of up to three months from 17 March 2020.

The government said that the cancellations was because of “action being taken to limit the spread of the coronavirus”.

Veterans UK, which is part of the Ministry of Defence and provides free support to veterans and their families, said that it was “reviewing the impact” of the decision on how individual claims can be progressed.

“More information will be issued to those affected in due course,” Veterans UK added.

“It is always our aim to reach decisions on claims as quickly as possible. However, we must also balance this with the risks of spreading the coronavirus to veterans, many of whom may be in groups at higher risk from the virus.

“We would like to thank everyone for their understanding during this unprecedented time.”
