Appointments update - 25 November 2024

Camilla Barry has been appointed as deputy pensions ombudsman (DPO) and deputy Pension Protection Fund ombudsman by Pensions Minister, Emma Reynolds.

She succeeds former DPO, Anthony Arter, who remained at TPO on an interim basis after his term as pensions ombudsman ended, in order to complete his cases for the Pensions Dishonesty Unit and to deal with any conflicts for the present pensions ombudsman, Dominic Harris. Harris commented: “[Barry] brings a wealth of experience in pensions law and knowledge about TPO itself, having worked as part of our legal team for the last year. I would like to extend my personal thanks to our previous DPO, Anthony Arter, for agreeing to stay on as DPO and his excellent work on some extremely complex determinations that will make a huge difference to the scheme members affected.”

Josephine Maguire has been appointed as the interim chair of the Judicial Pension Board.

The Lord Chancellor confirmed the appointment, and ministers consulted the Commissioner for Public Appointments before making the appointment. The appointment ensures that the Judicial Pension Board has an interim chair while a recruitment exercise is run. The Judicial Pension Board is responsible for helping the Lord Chancellor manage and govern the Judicial Pension Schemes by ensuring they comply with the requirements of The Pensions Regulator. Maguire is a trustee of the DH&S Retirement and Death Benefits Plan and the PwC Pension Fund. Prior to this, she was also pensions assurance director with PwC and an executive director of the Pensions Research Accountants Group.

Barnett Waddingham has appointed Helena Morrissey as non-executive chair.

The appointment of Morrissey is effective from 1 January 2025. She will be responsible for providing independent oversight of the firm’s strategy and governance, while ensuring the board maintains the highest standards of decision-making and accountability. She will work with senior partner, Andrew Vaughan, and four new managing partners. Morrissey has 15 years of experience as New Investment Management CEO. Morrissey currently chairs the Diversity Project. She also currently chairs the boards of Fidelis Insurance Group and Altum Group, and has previously held a number of other nonexecutive roles, including chair of the Investment Association from 2014 to 2017. She will take over the role from Elizabeth Renshaw-Ames, who leaves the role after six years.
