Appointments update 17 June

- Aon Hewitt has appointed Dr Willi Thurnherr as chief executive officer for Switzerland. He will take office on 1 October 2015. Thurnherr will join Aon Hewitt from Mercer where he spent the last 11 years leading the firm’s benefits administration, actuarial, investment and brokerage businesses as CEO and head of pension fund advisory services, in Switzerland.

Prior to this he held a number of leadership roles at Rentenanstalt/SwissLife and Basler-Versicherungs-Gesellschaft, having graduated from the University of Berne with Dr. phil. nat. in Mathematics. He also chairs the national International Accounting working group (Arbeitsgruppe Internationale Rechnungslegung).

- Capital Cranfield Trustees has appointed Nicki Mortimer as a client director and she will provide independent trustee and governance services to the firm’s growing client list. Mortimer joins Capital Cranfield from AstraZeneca, where she was responsible for the company's global pension and benefits provision.

Prior to AstraZeneca, she was UK pensions manager at Balfour Beatty plc, having previously been pensions admin consultant at Mercer. Mortimer is a fellow of the Pensions Management Institute, where she has been an examiner, and is a regular speaker at industry events and conferences, drawing on her extensive experience of UK pensions from both the sponsor and trustee perspective.

- BNP Paribas has appointed Matt Joyce as a portfolio manager within its multi asset solutions group, headed by Charles Janssen. He has over 12 years’ investment experience, covering long-only and long/short strategies.

Prior to joining BNP Paribas Investment Partners, he worked at Schroders Investment Management as a multi asset analyst and fund manager, focusing on equity and cross asset volatility research, and managing balanced products and volatility strategies.

- PricewaterhouseCoopers has appointed Nikesh Patel to its pensions investment advisory business. He joins from BlackRock, where he managed the relationships with some of BlackRock’s largest institutional pension fund clients.

In his new role, Nikesh will advise corporate sponsors and trustees on risk and investment strategies for their defined benefit pension funds.
