Appointments update 07 November

• JLT Employee Benefits executive director Hugh Nolan has been promoted to chief actuary at the firm.

He will represent the company in its engagement with The Pensions Regulator and trade bodies such as the Society of Pension Consultants and the Association of Consulting Actuaries.

• Ignis Asset Management has appointed Eric Stobart and David Watts as non-executive directors. Stobart will chair the audit and risk committee and Watts will chair the investment committee.

Stobart currently holds non-executive roles at Throgmorton Trust, Utilico Investments, and Capita Managing Agency. He has senior trustee positions on the pension schemes of Lloyds Banking Group, Anglian Water, Dixons Store Group and Lloyd’s of London.

Watts began his professional career at Phillips & Drew in 1971 before moving to Gartmore in 1979, where he spent the remainder of his professional career. He is currently a non-executive director at JP Morgan Fleming Income & Growth Investment Trust, and has previously held non-executive directorships at Martin Currie Investment Management, Investec High Income Trust, Merchant Navy Ratings Pension Fund, Key Asset Management and AXA UK plc.

• The International Organisation of Pension Supervisors (IOPS) has elected Dr. Edward Odundo, the chief executive officer of the Retirement Benefits Authority of Kenya, as its third President.

Dr. Odundo’s appointment was made on the occasion of the 2013 Annual General
Meeting, held on 5 November 2013 in Seoul, Republic of Korea. He succeeds Mr Ross Jones, former deputy chair of APRA, the prudential supervisor of the financial sector in Australia.

Ms Solange Berstein, Pensions Superintendent of Chile, continues to serve as the Chair of the IOPS Technical Committee. In addition Mr Edgar Robles Cordero from the Pensions Superintendence of Costa Rica was appointed to serve as the Organisation’s vice-president.

• Quantum Advisory has appointed Darren Wateridge as senior consultant and actuary.

Wateridge joined Quantum’s London office on 28 August and brings over 15 years’ experience in the corporate pensions market. Within his role, he will work to further enhance Quantum’s consultancy and actuarial offering to clients, particularly at the small-medium sized scheme level where it has particular expertise.

He is a fellow of the Institute of Actuaries and joins from insurance company Aegon where he worked within the corporate solutions department, focusing on new business development in the defined benefit schemes and annuities space, as well as providing general technical pension support. Prior to this, he has also held positions at Buck Consultants and Aon Hewitt.

• BlueBay Asset Management has announced that Luc Leclercq has joined as partner, chief operating officer and a member of the management committee.

Luc began his career at JP Morgan where he worked from 1986 to 2002 in various roles including: business manager for the European Fixed Income business; head of EMEA Middle Office; head of EMEA Emerging Markets Middle Office and a programme manager for fixed income systems.

He joined F&C Asset Management in 2003 where he worked for eight years, having initially joined as head of client service, operations, performance and risk measurement.

• Lincoln International Pensions Advisory has appointed Tony Hobman as a senior advisor.

Hobman, who was chief executive of The Pensions Regulator from its inception in 2005 until December 2010, will advise on the development of Lincoln International’s pensions advisory business.

Hobman has held a number of senior appointments within the financial services arena. He spent the first 19 years of his career with Barclays Bank and was subsequently head of private investor services and then CEO of Proshare and CEO of The Money Channel plc.
