The London Pensions Fund Authority (LPFA) is one of the largest Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) schemes in London. The £7.6 billion LPFA Fund has over 92,500 members and 123 participating employers.

We are currently seeking a new independent chair of our Local Pension Board (LPB), an extremely important component of the LPFA’s governance arrangements. Under the Public Service Pensions Act 2013, all LGPS administrating authorities are required to have an LPB. It is an influential, non-decision making body but is responsible for assisting the LPFA in compliance with pension regulations, representing the views of members and employers and in supporting the LPFA’s commitment to being a well-run Fund.

The LPB is formed of 4 employer and 4 member representatives as well as the independent Chair. The Chair plays a crucial role and the role requires a variety of skills including:

• a positive, committed and inclusive attitude
• independent judgement
• excellent communication skills
• meeting facilitation

Applicants for the role of Chair should have significant relevant experience either as a Pension Fund trustee or in the running of pension funds, preferably, within the LGPS. Knowledge of pensions administration and governance within the LGPS would be an asset. Part-time, fixed term of 4 years (but can serve two terms). £7,000 per annum. Location: London.

The closing date for applications is 16 December 2022. Interviews are expected to be held in London on 24, 26 and 31 January and 1 February 2023.

For and guidance on how to apply, please contact recruitment@lpfa.org.uk, for further information.
