News in brief - 20 August 2021

Border to Coast Pensions Partnership’s Emerging Markets Equity Fund has exceeded £1bn.

This follows additional commitments from partner funds and investment growth amid a restructuring of the Emerging Markets Equity Fund, which reflected the increasing importance of China within emerging markets. As part of this, the fund has been split into two sleeves: one focused on the Chinese market managed by two specialist China equity managers, UBS Asset Management and FountainCap Research & Investment; and one for non-Chinese emerging markets, managed directly by the in-house Border to Coast team.

Aon has launched an online quiz to help UK employers and pension scheme trustees determine if a collective defined contribution (CDC) scheme might meet their future needs.

The Is CDC right for my scheme? tool, which can be used by those running either defined benefit (DB) or defined contribution (DC) schemes, poses a set of 10 questions and also helps identify which type of CDC scheme might be best suited to different scenarios. In order to reach its recommendations, the professional services firm’s quiz asks questions about factors such as the size of scheme membership, operating costs and employer contributions.

The UK Retirement Living Fund (ReLF), managed by Schroders Capital and advised by Octopus Real Estate, has acquired a £55m retirement village with Elysian Residences.

The site has planning permission to develop a new, purpose-built retirement village, and is the second acquisition made by the ReLF/Elysian joint venture, following the purchase in April 2021 of a site for a new retirement scheme in Berkhamsted. The fund held its final close in September 2020, and has a primary objective of developing a portfolio of high-quality retirement communities across the UK on the back of undersupply and increasing demand, driven by a growing ageing population.
