Appointments update 23 September 2021

The Pensions and Lifetime Savings Association (PLSA) has named John Chilman as its policy board chair.

Chilman is chief executive of RPMI and became chair on 14 October at the PLSA’s annual general meeting. He was selected by a sub-committee of the board and will initially serve as PLSA policy board chair for three years; but this can be extended by up to a further three years. Chilman will also become a non-executive director on the PLSA board. The appointment will see Chilman succeed outgoing policy board chair Emma Douglas, who was recently named as the incoming chair of the PLSA.

The Association of Member Nominated Trustees (AMNT) has appointed Maggie Rodger as co-chair.

She will co-chair the association alongside Janice Turner, following the decision of David Weeks to stand down from the position because of ill health. Due to the sudden vacancy of co-chair, Rodger agreed to take up the role on an interim basis to take the organisation to the next AGM in 2022. She is a member nominated trustee of the Church of England Pensions Board and currently chairs the Audit and Risk Committee.

Phoenix Group has hired Valeria Piani as its head of stewardship, a newly formed position.

Piani will lead the company’s engagement and voting strategy, responsible for overseeing the evaluation of the stewardship capabilities of Phoenix’s Asset Management partners, and managing Phoenix’s growing in house stewardship team. She has over 14 years’ experience in the industry, with an understanding of global stewardship and responsible investment practices.
