Appointments update 3 July 2020

The Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) has announced the appointment of Lindsey Matthews as chief risk officer.

His new role will see him provide risk management expertise to the senior team and lead the Group Risk function, as well as assisting the board. With over 30 years’ experience of financial markets, he will join the Group Executive Team as of 21 September, subject to regulatory approval. Matthews will replace Guy Coughlan, who has now taken another role within the USS Group to focus on the delivery of the pension scheme valuation.

Dalriada Trustees has appointed David Fogarty as director.

Based in the London office, Fogarty will be focused on scheme boards where there is a specific requirement for a professional trustee with risk management, or investment expertise. He joins the team after a 30-year career with Mercer, where he held a number of senior roles across financial services, including leading the European Financial Strategy Group from 2009 to 2017.

RPMI Railpen has named Jason Woods as chief operations and technology officer.

Woods, who began the role on 1 July, has now joined the Investment Executive Committee, reporting to managing director of investments, Michelle Ostermann. He will be responsible for ensuring the seamless running of Railpen’s operating platform, and replaces Paul Nathan, who has now been named RPMI managing director of strategic development. Woods has almost 25 years of financial services industry experience, including 21 years spent at Schroder Investment Management.
