• Are you a Technical Pensions expert looking for a new challenge?
• Would you like to use your knowledge, skills and experience to really make a difference to people’s lives?

If so, then working as a Pensions Specialist with The Pensions Ombudsman may be just right for you! Enjoy a rewarding role as part of a growing and busy team, based in new offices in Canary Wharf.

The Pensions Ombudsman is a free, independent organisation set up to help people that have any complaints/issues about workplace pensions. We look at the facts without taking sides. We aim to constantly support one another to provide the best service we can for the people who need us most.

Your new role

You will be taking up an exciting newly-created position within The Pensions Ombudsman Legal Team, reporting to the Interim Technical Pensions Manager.

Your role will be to help the Office achieve its aims by delivering a quality, consistent and reliable complaint-handling service. You will be responsible for devising and implementing a training program for the Casework teams as well as providing guidance and technical assistance to The Pension Ombudsman teams.

You will also be called upon to review draft decisions and final determinations on complex cases for Adjudicators within the Casework teams for technical content editing them where necessary, ensuring consistency, accuracy and robustness.

You will need to keep up to date with developments within the pensions industry and draft and review process and guidance notes, with legal input as required. The role also involves attending regular case surgeries held by the lawyers for The Pensions Ombudsman staff, assisting where queries cross into technical pensions issues from legal ones.

About you

Ideally you will have a PMI or CII qualification with significant technical expertise in relation to occupational and personal pension schemes across the private and public sectors. Although you will not immediately have a team to manage, it is possible that the technical team will grow, so ideally you should have management experience and will be involved in mentoring and coaching colleagues to develop and increase their skill set.

You will need first-class interpersonal, customer service and communication skills, both in writing and on the telephone and be able to explain complex technical pension details in a way that is practical and jargon free. You will also have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and possess the ability to give presentations when necessary.

For the right person the rewards include a competitive salary plus a range of worthwhile benefits including:

• 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays and 2½ privilege days
• Flexi time – we offer flexible working hours
• The opportunity to work from home for a part of each week
• Opportunities to develop your skills and career
• An excellent working environment – great office and great facilities
