The Role

To support the Finance & Treasury Manager in delivering weekly, monthly, and quarterly financial reporting and submission of tax returns for CAAPS, in addition to facilitating elements of the treasury function. The role also includes direct line management of the Accounts Technician role within the CAAPS Finance team.

Core Accountabilities

Primary responsibility for managing, motivating, and developing the Accounts Technician and responsibility for reviewing their work

Provide support in the preparation of the CAAPS Annual Report and Accounts

Liaising with external and internal auditors, ensuring they receive timely responses to complete their work in accordance with agreed terms of engagement and reference

Production of the quarterly AVC reporting for inclusion in Member Services Committee meeting packs

Completion of monthly asset allocation schedules and supporting reconciliations between the investment manager and custodian, identifying, and resolving any issues

Reconciling monthly and quarterly investment performance reported by the investment managers and custodian for review from the Finance & Treasury Manager

Review the quarterly ONS return produced by the Scheme Accountant ensuring it is submitted on a timely basis

Review the quarterly VAT return ensuring it is submitted on time and any payments to or from HMRC are accurate

Ensuring that weekly cash flow activity monitoring is completed by the Accounts Technician and responsibility for reviewing and resolving any issues that arise

Produce monthly cash flow forecasting projections for review by the Finance & Treasury Manager

Responsibility for checking monthly contributions analytical reviews and investigating any issues identified

Participate in the CAAPS Treasury function ensuring payments and transfers of cash are accurate and made in a timely manner. Responsibility for ensuring that all distributions into the Scheme from the investment managers are received and receipted into the custodian


About You

To be considered for the role you must have:

Proven experience working in a pensions finance and/or pensions audit role

Full understanding of business functions such as Finance, Treasury

An ability to work to deadlines and organise own time with minimal supervision

Excellent interpersonal skills and experience in managing others

Aptitude in decision-making and problem-solving

Must be able to exercise professional scepticism and possess a confidence to challenge advisers and suppliers

Confident in analysing and interpreting large volumes of data

Working knowledge of IT/business infrastructure and MS Office. Prior exposure to the Scheme’s accounting software Aviary Profund preferable

Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA etc) with some post qualification experience

Additional Information

For many appointments within the CAA, these roles require access to operationally sensitive infrastructure and/or Nationally Protected information. For these roles the post holders must undergo National Security Vetting and achieve the appropriate level of clearance.

To be vetted we will usually expect a reasonable period of residency in the UK so that meaningful checks can be undertaken. For this role this will need to be 5 years.
