About the role

In this role, you will be setting out a strategy and plan for the team, to ensure that all ongoing work (checking and processing) is completed in-month, so that we are sustainably and reliably delivering our service. You will set high standards for the team, both in terms of productivity and quality of work, and will support the team to succeed and achieve these standards. Through our risk and control framework, you will be proactively identifying risks and issues, and ensuring that all key controls are completed (and developing new controls where appropriate) so that we have a high level of assurance about the accuracy of the team’s work.

The Fund is undergoing a period of improvement, where we are seeking to address legacy issues and prevent them from reoccurring. This role will contribute to this goal, by developing a plan to reduce open cases down to in-month work only, alongside an outsourcing project.

You will be collaboratively working with other team members across the Fund to ensure contribution receipts and data are correctly received from the Fund’s employers, keeping a clear purpose in mind of the different roles and responsibilities between the Fund and the employers. You will embrace and promote proactive ways of working to ensure that employers are complying with their responsibilities, through focussed checks and controls.

You will be assessing the effectiveness of the team, and thinking of ways that we can improve and become more efficient. Wiltshire Pension Fund staff are a supportive and motivated team who are proud to work for the Fund. This will be a rewarding and collaborative role in which your ideas will be listened to, and you can take pride in helping us to improve.

About you

You will hold a degree or relevant professional qualification such as (IPPM, PMI, CII) or related discipline (or ability to demonstrate skills at the required level), and have significant experience administering a large final salary pension scheme. You will have extensive experience of computerised pensions administration systems, preferably including experience of the Altair LGPS System, and will possess excellent knowledge of defined benefit pension scheme management and the major factors and issues involved in pension service delivery such as the administrative, operational and financial elements.

You will have experience of leading a team, including setting the strategy for the team, setting goals for individuals, performing appraisals, and motivating and supporting staff to deliver to their best potential.

You will work in an outcome-focussed way, and will embrace and promote the Fund’s vision, strategic goals and values. All values form part of our culture, and a particularly relevant value for this role is “Smarter Working – we maintain focus on our core objectives, and work in a proactive and disciplined way, to promote simplicity and efficiency in everything we do”. You will be able to demonstrate your skills in working in this way, and translate that into your strategy for the team.
