News in brief - 13 October

- Pensions Quality Mark (PQM) has announced the shortlist for its new Distinction Award. The award seeks to recognising the best of the best in pension communications; rewarding those who have gone above and beyond in order to encourage member engagement. Pension Schemes have been nominated throughout the year by PQM Assessors, both internal and external. The winner of the PQM Distinction Award will be announced at the PLSA Annual Conference on 18 October by PQM chairman Gregg McClymont (former Shadow Pensions Minister).

- Origo has developed and demonstrated how financial advisers can access a client’s pensions dashboard through secure, GDPR-complaint delegated authority. Working with a leading supplier of solutions to financial advisers, O&M Systems, Origo has been demonstrating this functionality to key industry stakeholders and believes that this is key to ensuring better outcomes for consumers in enabling the adviser community to provide much needed advice.

- A new initiative called Pensions for Purpose (www.pensionsforpurpose.com) has been launched this week. The aim of this collaborative initiative is to promote understanding of impact investment by effectively sharing news stories, blogs, case studies, academic research and thought leadership papers, and acting as a first port of call for journalists seeking comment on impact investment-related issues. The idea was the brain-child of a discussion at “The Gathering”, an event which brought together 130 of the UK’s most active participants in social investment. Held over two days in February 2017, The Gathering was a unique opportunity for key stakeholders to consider some of the sector’s most pressing issues.
