News in brief: 21 July

Scottish Widows has launched a centralised retirement proposition guide.

The guide serves as additional support for advisers and covers the ‘at retirement’ and ‘in retirement’ stages when a customer draws down their savings. It combines key areas that advisers have addressed since the Pension Freedoms and gives an overview of retirement income planning. These include: risk assessment, retirement income fact-find, withdrawal options, investment strategy and an ongoing review.

PLSA has announced Northern Trust Asset Management as headline partner for diversity initiative.

The Pensions and Lifetime Savings Association has announced Northern Trust Asset Management as the headline partner for its diversity initiative Breaking the Mirror Image. The initiative, announced in March 2017, with the release of a collection of essays, aims to encourage greater diversity on trustee boards across the pensions industry. Over the next year the Association and Northern Trust AM will work on a programme of events and training, including the Diverse Leadership Training Programme and a one day diversity conference.

Serco has appointed BlackRock for a £1.5bn LDI mandate .

The trustees of the Serco pension scheme have appointed BlackRock to manage its liability driven investing portfolio. The scheme previously operated three separate mandates with different fund managers, which were reviewed as part of its aim to reach full funding in the next five to 10 years. The LDI strategy has now been aggregated into one portfolio managed solely by BlackRock.
