PLSA 2016: 'Humour key to effective pensions comms' - Sir Lenny Henry

"Humour is a key element to everything we do" and "should be used to engage effectively with millennials to boost saving", Sir Lenny Henry has advised.

Speaking at the PLSA Annual Conference in Liverpool today, the comedian, actor and charity activist, said "people remember things when they are funny because it engages with the brain".

Referring to a pensions information pack he received pre-conference, Henry said it was "too long" and "boring".

"The first thing I did when I joined the National Theatre was to advise them to cut down on paperwork. It is key to keep things tight, keep things amusing, keep things brief and this can be done through the use of video links and bullet points.

"Think in terms of click bait and you won't go far wrong. For the youngsters of today, humour can help get them on board with saving."
