Frank Field confirmed as chair of the Work and Pensions Committee

Frank Field has been re-elected as the chair of the Work and Pensions Select Committee, it was confirmed today, 13 July 2017.

According to the Committee, after a ballot, and as the only nomination for the role, Field has retained his role as chair.

Field was initially appointed to the role in June 2015 serving to May 2017 and will now continue with the new parliament. He also served as a member of the Liaison Committee and Ecclesiastical until May 2017.

In addition to this, Field has served as Labour MP for Birkenhead since May 1979; also re-elected to represent the constituency in the June election this year.

Serving as Work and Pensions chair, Field was largely involved in the BHS scandal, as well as overseeing other pensions cases including discussions on the possible scrapping of the triple lock earlier this year.

“The future of work, retirement and our social safety net will remain among the biggest issues facing our economy in the short and long term. I look forward to working with Committee colleagues to take up both unfinished business from the last parliament and their new ideas to move these debates on,” Field said.
