Appointments update 20 June

Andy Gibbons has been appointed on the policy committee of the Pensions Administration Standards Association.

Gibbons joins as a committee member and is currently head of trustee services and member experience at Coal Pensions Trustees Services, responsible for supporting the trustees Mineworkers’ Pension Scheme and the British Coal Staff Superannuation Scheme. He has 30 years of industry experience and is a fellow of the Pensions Management Institute.


Gowling WLG has promoted Jennifer Lewis and Stephen Longfellow to legal directors in its pensions team.

Lewis has worked with the firm for 10 years specialising on public sector pensions and staff transfers from private to public sector. Longfellow specialises in risk transfer work, acting for trustees and insurers in relation to buy-ins and buyouts.


Karen Johnston has been reappointed as the Deputy Pensions Ombudsman, it has been announced.

Following a three year term, Johnston has been reappointed by the Minister of State for Pensions and Financial Inclusion Guy Opperman, on behalf of the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions Esther McVey, for a further two years. After originally being appointed to the role in 2015, the reappointment will start on the 1 July 2018. Johnston was formerly a strategy lawyer for The Pensions Regulator, where she also served in a leading role in the implementation of auto-enrolment. Before this Johnston worked as a consumer legal adviser at the Office of Fair Trading.
