Appointments update 14 July

AJ Bell has appointed Peter Hopkins to the role of technical director.

Hopkins will oversee the firm’s technical resources team and will build on AJ Bell’s lobbying activity with both regulatory and government bodies. Prior to this, Hopkins worked at both HM Revenue and Customs and the Department for Work and Pensions. He led the pension simplification project at HMRC, resulting in new pensions rules that came into effect on A–day, along with major projects such as the tax regime for stakeholder pensions and the introduction of real time reporting of PAYE.

Vanguard group has elected Tim Buckley as president and director of Vanguard.

After joining the firm in 1991, Buckley was elected principal in 1998, subsequently holding senior leadership roles in two divisions; including chief information officer and head of Vanguards information technology division. Buckley will continue the company’s work to help their clients achieve strong investments. As well as serving as president and director of the firm, Buckley will succeed Bill McNabb as chief executive officer on 1 January 2018.

Aberdeen Asset Management has appointed Steen Foldberg as head of Luxembourg and managing director of Aberdeen global services.

Foldberg will report to head of product at Aberdeen, Gary Marshall, and will aid in the managing of over 90 funds with assets under management of around €57 billion. Prior to this, Foldberg was managing director of Julius Baer.
