TPAS names former PPF chief exec as new chair

The Pensions Advisory Service (TPAS) has appointed Partha Dasgupta as its new chairman for a term of three years.

Yvette Cooper, Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, made the announcement which took effect from 4 January 2010. Dasgupta replaces outgoing chair, Margaret Snowdon of Lucida.

"I am pleased to announce that Partha Dasgupta has agreed to be the new chairman of the Pensions Advisory Service. He will bring a wealth of pensions, financial and management experience to his new role."

Dasgupta most recently held the post of chief executive of the Pension Protection Fund (PPF), which he stood down from in June 2009.

"I am very pleased to have been given the opportunity to lead a body as well-regarded as the Pensions Advisory Service. Last year's record demand from the public for our independent and free one-stop information and guidance on pensions demonstrates the growing need for our services.

"Our network of volunteers and professional staff are respected by the pensions industry and we believe we offer real value for money. I look forward to working with them and the wider pension community to build on past successes and meet the challenge of continuing to provide a first rate service to the public in a changing pensions environment," Dasgupta said.
