Pensions Trust has a new chair

The Pensions Trust has appointed a new chair of the Trustee Board, Sarah Smart, to lead the Board and create the conditions for the Board's overall effectiveness.

Smart has served as a trustee for several public and private sector schemes, and is currently trustee chair of the Macmillan Cancer Support Pension Scheme, and Board member of the London Pensions Fund Authority.

She has also spent nine years with Standard Life Investments, with her most recent responsibility for building the infrastructure to support a multi-billion pound liability driven investment business.

The Pensions Trust has also appointed two Board directors: Clare Smith as member nominated director, and Stephen Duckworth has been re-elected as an employer nominated director.

"We are delighted to welcome Sarah Smart as chair of our Trustee Board," commented Stephen Nichols, chief executive of the Pensions Trust. "Her appointment is a testament to our commitment to provide the highest level of expertise and support to both existing and future scheme members. With Sarah's impressive profile, and the appointment of Stephen Duckworth and Clare Smith, we are confident that they will help us drive our business forward and maintain our aim of making membership worthwhile."

Smart, whose appointment was effective as of 13 April 2010, added: "I am delighted to be appointed as the chair of The Pensions Trust's Trustee Board. The current environment of economic uncertainty and increasing regulatory changes presents a huge challenge for all pension schemes and I look forward to working with The Pensions Trust to ensure we continue to offer relevant, worthwhile pension schemes to our members."
