News in brief w/c 21 November

Pitmans Trustees has announced that it has relaunched its contract based pension governance service. Originally launched in 2008, the product will strengthen governance procedures built around an up-to-date governance policy that reflects all of the needs of tPR, the DWP and the IGG.

The CFA Society of the UK (CFA UK) has announced the appointment of its new Chairman, Richard Rothwell, along with six new fellows. Joe Biernat, Robert Jenkins, Carol Kennedy, Peter Montagnon, Andrew Smithers and Bob Yerbury have all joined to help promote high ethical standards in the investment profession through increasing awareness and better financial education.

Essex County Council has appointed Barnett Waddingham to advise on its pension scheme. The scheme has an active membership of 43,728 and the fund was valued at £3.1 billion as of March 2010.

Aon Hewitt has been appointed by the trustees of the University of St Andrews Pension Scheme to supply the fund with services including actuarial and investment advice, pensions administration and risk benefits consultancy. The fund is valued at £65 million and has 1300 members.
