Just 6% of employers expect to add staff to cope with auto-enrolment implementation

Just 6 per cent of HR, payroll and financial professionals expect their employer to take on additional staff to meet their auto-enrolment responsibilities despite an increased administrative burden being attached to the government savings initiative, a survey conducted by Ceridian has revealed.

Results taken from a survey of 211 professionals showed that 3 per cent expect only one additional person to be employed with an additional 3 per cent stating that they expect two to four staff to be employed.

For the majority of organisations, the HR function owns the auto enrolment project at 43 per cent followed by payroll at 24 per cent.

Ceridian UK chief product and innovation officer David Woodward said: “We know from experience with the largest organisations that, provided the right technology is employed, the administrative burden can be managed. However, we also know many organisations are trying to manage without investing in the right technology and yet still think they can achieve this with no additional resource.

“Worryingly, nearly a third of respondents believe additional resource will be required but fear it will not be allowed.”
