Events,
seminars and conferences: May 2009 onwards
HSBC
Actuaries and Consultants Summer Conferences
Manchester
– 23 June – Marriott Worsely Park
London – 24 June – CII Insurance Hall
The current
economic climate has highlighted the need for every business to
justify and manage all costs more effectively. Alongside this, it
is well documented that many employees have never truly understood
or appreciated the total value of the benefits offered to them.
Combined, these are compelling reasons for employers to not only
control but to explore how to maximise the return on investment
(ROI) from their benefit spend.
Our June Conferences ‘Managing your benefit spend in a recessionary
environment – and beyond’ address the seemingly contradictory
challenge of developing an engaged workforce whilst containing,
or even reducing, employment and related costs.
All attendees will receive a free CD ROM containing our ROI Tool
– a unique piece of software which not only helps you understand
your current employee benefits spend but also calculates the potential
savings your company, and your employees could achieve by implementing
a range of different initiatives.

First Actuarial
'Introduction
to Trusteeship' course
Thursday
17 September, in central London
The environment
in which pension scheme trustees operate has never been more complex
and there is no doubt that the role of the pension scheme trustee
is under more scrutiny than ever before.
Trustees, therefore,
need to understand a broad range of legal, financial and investment
issues and First Actuarial has developed a series of one day training
courses designed to meet these requirements.
This course
is particularly suited to newly-appointed trustees, but can also
act as a useful refresher for existing trustees who wish to update
and develop their knowledge.
'Introduction
to Trusteeship' covers the following areas:
• Background
to pension provision
• Role of the trustee
• Role of advisers
• Role of the Pensions Regulator (TPR)
• An overview of pensions legislation
The
'Introduction to Trusteeship' course costs £300 plus VAT and
takes place in central London on Thursday 17 September 2009.
'Investment
Training for Trustees' course
Monday
23 November 2009, in central London
The
course has been designed to refresh the understanding and knowledge
of both newly-appointed and more experienced trustees.
'Investment
Training for Trustees' will cover the following areas:
• Types
of assets and asset allocation strategies
• Requirements of trustees
• Risks and mitigating actions
• Fund management
• Statement of Investment Principles
• Performance measurement
The 'Investment Training for Trustees' course costs £300 plus
VAT and takes place in central London on both 14 May and 23 November
2009.

Buck Consultants trustee training 2009
Buck
Consultants has revealed details of its 2009 trustee training
course programme.
All trustees have a statutory duty, within six months of appointment,
to demonstrate that they have a knowledge and understanding (TKU)
of: the laws relating to trusts and pensions; the principles of
funding and investment; and the documents particular to their scheme.
Buck’s Practical Trustee training course is ideal
for new trustees or for seasoned trustees looking for a refresher.
The practical emphasis runs throughout the day, but is particularly
enhanced by the workshops and discussion groups on the most common
issues faced by trustees.
Buck’s
Investment Trustee training course builds on the Practical
Trustee training course, providing essential training for those
involved in setting investment policy. Reflecting the practical
nature of the day, there is a strong emphasis on workshops and discussion
groups.
Buck also offers
scheme-specific training for both defined contribution (DC) and
defined benefit (DB) schemes. As schemes vary enormously, one of
the main benefits of scheme-specific training is that the focus
is on the specific needs of a trustee group. Every individual is
given the opportunity to identify their own training needs, and
the training is tailored specifically around what each trustee tells
us they want.
